God Sightings: Solomon’s Prayer

This autumn, we drop into various stories of the Bible sequentially, starting at the beginning — following along with our young people in Church School. We’ll spend the next few weeks looking for “God sightings”- learning about and noticing where God lives, how God shows up for us, and how we can listen for God in our lives.

Last Sunday, we sat with David as God informed him that he wasn’t the one who would build the temple. This Sunday, we meet King Solomon, David’s son, as he prepares to take on this sacred task. Our scripture reading contains excerpts from Solomon’s prayer on the matter, aligning his temple-building with God’s wider mission for the community: worship and welcome. In our own worship, we’ll ponder together about the ways our physical spaces can be used to serve God, neighbor, and stranger alike.

Our worship service is going to be a little different this Sunday, as we offer a taste of what a slightly more intentionally intergenerational worship could look like. By including elements like repetitive language, simple songs that are taught orally/aurally, and interactive discussion time, we make our worship service more accessible not only to children, but also to English language learners, neurodivergent individuals, and folks who are new to Christian worship. Take note of the different ways you engage in worship this Sunday, and then let us know about it at the Pastoral Support Team’s open forum (aka “Conversation Corner”) after worship in the Sanctuary!

In faith,
Amy
