GBIO Update February 2, 2024

THANK YOU to all those who attended the In-District Meeting with Sen. Creem and Reps. Vitolo, Balser, Khan and Peisch this past Monday evening at Union Church in Waban. There were 230 in attendance from 18 worship congregations and a few affiliated organizations active in housing and services to returning citizens, including 25 of us from the United Parish! Throughout all of the IDM’s held around greater Boston, the support from elected officials has been very positive overall, as was the case with our IDM on Monday. Lenten Dinner Church 2024

Join us for a contemplative, candlelit service over a shared meal on Thursdays during Lent (February 22, 29, March 7, 14, 21) from 6:00-6:45pm in the Parlor. Doors open at 5:45pm. Dinner church is a postmodern return to an ancient worship model, just like what the early Christians did in their own homes. We’ll enjoy soup, salad, communion, art, prayer, and music. Summer Camp Scholarships Available

Many of us have fond memories of going to sleep-away church camp when we were young. The United Parish Baptists are offering full scholarships (up to $790) to Grotonwood, a Baptist camp where we have had retreats in the past. Children between the ages of 7 – 16 are eligible for a 5 night overnight camp in July or August. Souper Bowl 2024

After a multi-year hiatus, the Souper Bowl Chili Sale is returning. On Saturday, February 10, the Hearts and Hands Ministry Team will gather in the kitchen off Willett Hall to cook the chili, make cornbread and bake desserts. Come join us anytime between 9am-2pm to cook and socialize with others. After church on Sunday, February 11, we will sell the food and the proceeds will go towards the matching funds for United Parish’s grant award from the National Fund for Sacred Places.
