Growing Grandparents

The next meeting of the Growing Grandparents group will be Wednesday, February 14 at 10am on Zoom. (There is no meeting in January).

In the current moment of intense polarization in our country, school districts are facing an unprecedented number of book bans. You may find that a number of them are books you read in school or have enjoyed as an adult! The American Library Office for Intellectual Freedom has tracked 1,269 challenges to school, library, and university materials and services. Most of these challenges relate to books written about topics on LGBTQIA+ and people of color.

We are inviting you to read or revisit a book that is currently on a banned book list, and share your thoughts about it with the group. You can choose from a number of banned book lists. You can also check out Hummingbird Books in Chestnut Hill, which has its own list and is participating in the “Books Unite Us” campaign. Learn more about it on their website: hummingbirdbooks.com, or stop by their shop at 55 Boylston St., Chestnut Hill. You don’t have to be a grandparent to join in what promises to be a lively discussion.
