GBIO Update: Affordable Housing Discussion

The United Parish GBIO Core Team wants all at United Parish to know of a unique chance to learn about affordable housing in Brookline, this time from the perspective of both for-profit and non-profit developers called “Housing For All” on Wednesday, September 18 from 7-8:30pm in the Select Board Hearing Room on the 6th Floor at Brookline Town Hall (333 Washington St.).
It’s a joint presentation by
  • the CEO of 2Life Communities — the non-profit developer of senior affordable housing who developed the Brown Family House (the 62-unit affordable senior building near Coolidge Corner) and
  • a private developer with roots in Brookline and a particular interest in energy efficiency.
It’s co-sponsored by town housing and planning agencies as well as by Yes! In Brookline and the GBIO Brookline congregations.
It’s free and either in-person or available by live-streaming.

Have you ever wondered about how housing in Brookline gets built? Yes! In Brookline, a community organization created to explore common priorities and solutions around land use, is happy to present “Housing For All: For-Profit and Nonprofit Developer Perspectives.” Zeina Talje and Amy Schechtman will discuss and answer questions regarding the hurdles they face as they plan and build multi-family homes, from project conception, permitting, and financing, to welcoming new neighbors.
This discussion will explore basic issues of development for those of us who have minimal understanding of this complicated topic, but want to learn more. Cathleen Cavell, a long-time town meeting member and former Associate Town Counsel in Brookline, will moderate.
