The Growing Grandparents Group invites you to join us in discussing the following books in the next two months. Whether or not you are actually a grandparent, we’d love to have you with us if you find these topics important and helpful. Find the Zoom link in the weekly email newsletter. Contact growinggrandparents@upbrookline.org.
Wednesday, March 12, 10am on Zoom: We will discuss the book, The Gift of Years, Growing Older Gracefully, by Joan Chittister. Of the many issues of growing older that Chittister highlights, which one did you identify with the most, and why? Mary McConnell, who has read and shared this book in meaningful ways in the past, will be our guide. The book is available at local libraries and on line.
Wednesday, April 9, 10am on Zoom: We will discuss the book, How We Learn to Be Brave, Decisive Moments in Life and Faith, by Episcopal Bishop of Washington D.C., Mariann Edgar Budde. Bishop Budde recently gained national attention at the prayer service for national unity following the inauguration, by preaching directly to President Trump about compassion. She wrote this book following the first Trump administration after she spoke out about Trump’s photo op with the Bible in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church during the George Floyd/ Black Lives Matter demonstrations in Washington D. C. We hope to share our own journeys in learning to be brave.
